Contest Details:

The Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce's Retail Committee is holding the second annual Mr & Miss Clovis Sparkle Contest. We’re searching for business sponsors and contestants (ages 5-11)! This is an exciting holiday contest that will support local businesses, generate revenue and encourage local holiday shopping!

Contestants vying for the Mr. & Miss Clovis Sparkle titles will fundraise and sell sponsor business gift cards to the local community. In effort to stay true to Retail Committee’s ongoing mission to support local shopping – proceeds will go to sponsor businesses participating in the gift card fundraiser AND toward lighting up Clovis during the holiday season. The boy and girl to raise the most money will be crowned this year’s Mr. and Miss Clovis Sparkle. A coronation ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 2 and all contestants will ride in Clovis MainStreet’s Christmas Lights Parade on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Deadline to Enter: Friday, October 15, 2021 at 4 p.m.

Contestant Requirements:

• Contestants must be a Curry County resident between the ages of 5-11.
• Enter by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021 (Entry forms are available at the Chamber office or at clovisnm.org/sparkle)
• Attend a mandatory meeting on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 6 p.m. at the Chamber office (105 E Grand Ave). Contestants will receive additional contest instructions and take a photo for their poster, as well as website and social media promotions.
• Compete for the Mr. or Miss Clovis Sparkle title by:
  • Requesting monetary donations from businesses and individuals.
    and/or
  • Selling business sponsor gift cards to the local community. The Chamber will provide the gift cards, which expire on March 15, 2022.
• How to get the gift cards: Contestants can choose to sell gift certificates for as many participating business sponsors as they want. They will choose how many gift certificates they want to check out from the Chamber office (105 E Grand Ave). Please note – when picking up gift certificates, a parent or legal guardian must sign a verification sheet that will indicate the specific gift certificates they are checking out, and will be held responsible for the corresponding amount and returning any unsold gift certificates.
• The contest ends on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021. Contestants (and their parent/guardian) will be responsible for returning all unsold gift certificates and money raised. Money and any unsold gift certificates must be turned in to the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce by 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2021 for it to be counted in the Mr & Miss Clovis Sparkle Contest. Please have the coins totaled; the Chamber will verify the totals. Late returns will be accepted, however they will not be counted toward the contest results.
• Attend coronation ceremony on Thursday, December 2. Time and location TBD.
• Ride in Clovis MainStreet’s Christmas Light Parade on Saturday, December 4

Gift Card Business Sponsors:

What's in it for gift card business sponsors:

• Cash flow up front
• Generates great sales
• Generates potential new customers
• Helps eliminate donations with nothing in return
• Good community profile

Gift Card Business Sponsor Requirements:

• Gift card business sponsors must be a member of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce
• The Chamber will print customized gift cards for each business sponsor. Each business can choose:
  • The amount of the gift certificates
  • How much they want to donate back from each gift card sold (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, etc.)
  • How many gift cards they allow to be sold
• Business sponsors can choose to sell gift certificates for their own business or other participating business sponsors if desired (and proceeds will still be split the same way), however those proceeds will not go toward a contestant’s effort to win the Mr & Miss Clovis Sparkle Contest.
  • How to get the gift cards (only required if business sponsor choose to sell them): Business representatives will choose how many gift certificates they want to check out from the Chamber office (105 E Grand Ave). Please note – when picking up gift certificates, business representatives must sign a verification sheet that will indicate the specific gift certificates they are checking out, and will be held responsible for the corresponding amount and returning any unsold gift certificates.

Additional Gift Card Details:

• Gift cards will expire on March 15, 2022
• During the contest, the Chamber will keep a sign-off sheet for each business sponsor. Chamber staff will be responsible for issuing the gift certificates (to contestants and business sponsors), as well as requiring the person taking the certificates to verify and sign the sheet indicating the numbers on the gift cards. (example 101-120). The Chamber staff member issuing the envelope will also sign the sheet.
• Once the contest is over, Chamber staff will also indicate on the sheet the date, amount and number of certificates returned if any. Chamber staff will count sales for each business. Any gift cards printed but not sold will be returned to the business.
• To even up with a business, the Chamber will turn in all cash, checks, etc. (counted and verified) to the business, and the business writes a check to Chamber for amount they are donating back from sales.
