Transportation: Connecting Clovis to the rest of the Region

Clovis is the gateway to the Land of Enchantment and serves as the retail and service hub for a trade area of 150,000 people in Eastern New Mexico and West Texas. U.S. Highways 60/84 and 70 intersect with New Mexico Highway 209 in Clovis, connecting businesses and visitors to the entire Southwest.

The Clovis Regional Airport is located 6 miles east on State Highway 523. Positioned on the most east-central side of the state, Clovis Airport is the aviation focal point of the region and provides a wide range of services. Two full-time fixed-base operators on the field meet the needs of the general aviation customer, including maintenance, flight instruction and 24-hour self-service refueling. In 2020, Denver Air was awarded an Essential Air Services (EAS) contract for Clovis Regional Airport by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The service offers daily flights from Clovis Regional Airport to and from Denver, Colorado and Dallas, Texas. Visit http://www.denverairconnect.com for more information.

An aggressive five-year plan has been adopted to keep pace with the demands needed by Cannon Air Force Base and the growing population of Clovis. Extension work on the main runway has been completed allowing for future growth and the capability for regional jets to use the airport. The two paved runways are more than 1 mile long and 155 feet wide and provide safe operations for landings and takeoffs. Ample ramp space, low descend/ascend to cruise and a precision category 1 ILS approach makes Clovis one of the most accessible airports for both the business and leisure flyer. Passenger airlines also fly into the Lubbock and Amarillo airports in Texas, which are 100 miles away. American Eagle, Southwest, United and Delta Airlines service Lubbock’s international airport. American Eagle, United and Southwest Airlines service Amarillo, Texas. American Airlines has a service into Roswell, N.M., and United Airlines has a service from Hobbs to Houston International. Shuttle service is available from Lubbock and Amarillo Airports to Clovis and Cannon Air Force Base.

Clovis has one rental car company – Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

Central to all fundamental elements of life in the City is the service of its transit provider. The Clovis Area Transit System (CATS), operated by the City of Clovis, provides local, on-demand public transportation within the city. CATS has served the city with community-oriented mobility options for years. For a small fare and advance reservation, anyone can access this service. CATS operates as a demand-response service to the general public and provides more than 68,000 annual trips on 15 vehicles with 15 employees. In January 2008, a new transit facility opened to meet the functional needs of a growing transit operation while providing for a welcoming presence in a neighborhood setting and located just a few blocks east of Clovis Main Street commercial corridor.
